Edit Wind Turbine Window |
The Edit Wind Turbine window allows you to view and edit the properties of a particular model of wind turbine. You can edit the details of a wind turbine from the Wind Turbine Library window by selecting a turbine, then clicking Edit.
Tip: You cannot edit a wind turbine file that was supplied with Windographer. These turbines appear in the "installed" folder and the Edit button is disabled if you select one. You must make a copy of the turbine, which Windographer will save to the "user" folder, in order to edit it.
You can use the Author, Source and Notes fields to document where the turbine details where obtained from. You may have obtained a power curve from a brochure, or signed a confidentiality agreement and obtained a guaranteed test curve. Windographer will automatically keep track of the date a turbine file is created, and when it was most recently modified.
The following table describes the relevant turbine properties.
Property | Description |
---|---|
Rotor diameter | The diameter of the swept area of a wind turbine. |
Rated power | The turbine's nameplate capacity in kW. |
Power regulation | The method the turbine uses to limit power output in high winds. The two standard forms of power regulation are pitch control and stall control. |
Hub height | The distance from the ground to the center of the turbine rotor. Wind turbines are often available with several different tower heights, corresponding to several different hub heights. |
Power curve | One or more curves showing the turbine's net electrical power output versus the hub height wind speed and the air density. |
Derating settings | One or more curves showing how the turbine's maximum power output gets restricted at high elevations and extreme temperatures. |
Temperature shutdown settings | Temperature thresholds indicating the high and low temperatures extremes beyond which the turbine shuts down, and the temperatures at which it comes back online after an extreme temperature shutdown. |
HWH (high wind hysteresis) settings | One or more threshold wind speed values at different averaging intervals, above which the wind turbine shuts down, and corresponding speeds at which the turbine comes back online after a high-wind shutdown. |
Click Import File to import wind turbine properties from any of the turbine properties formats that Windographer supports. Click Export File to export to any of those same formats.
