Inflow Angle Window

The Inflow Angle window displays the mean inflow angle versus wind speed, direction, month, or time of day. To access this window, choose Inflow Angle from the Analyze menu or click the inflow angle icon in the toolbar.

Tip: You can access the Inflow Angle Analysis function only if you have the Professional or higher edition of Windographer and if the current dataset contains vertical wind speed data. Please visit www.windographer.com for information on the pricing and capability of each edition.

Display Settings

Use the two drop-down boxes in the top left corner of the window to select a display variable and a parameter against which to plot it.

If you choose to plot versus month, for example, then in each month Windographer will calculate the mean horizontal wind speed, the mean vertical wind speed, and the resulting mean inflow angle. By setting the display variable you can choose to view the inflow angle, the mean horizontal and vertical wind speeds from which Windographer calculated that inflow angle, or the number of time steps on which the mean wind speeds are based.

If you choose to plot versus wind direction, a third drop-down box lets you specify the number of direction sectors. The default number of direction sectors comes from your preferred wind rose settings in the Options window.

Wind Speed Sensor Pairs

In this section of the window, Windographer lists all the data columns that you have identified (in the Configure Data Set window) as containing vertical wind speed data. For each vertical wind speed data column, you can choose a corresponding horizontal wind speed data column using the drop-down boxes. By default Windographer matches the vertical and horizontal wind speed data columns according to measurement height:

The selections that appear above, for example, tell Windographer that to calculate the inflow angle at 140m above ground, it must query the data column labeled "140m Z-Wind" for vertical wind speeds, and the data column labeled "140m Wind Speed" for horizontal wind speeds.

Note that in this window, when calculating the mean horizontal and vertical wind speed in a particular bin, Windographer will consider only those time steps in which both the horizontal and vertical wind speed data columns contain data and meet your filter criteria. (To see the resulting number of time steps in each bin, set the display variable to 'number of time steps'.) As a result, this window may report slightly different mean wind speed values than appear elsewhere in Windographer. For example, if you have flagged as invalid the 80m vertical wind speeds in six time steps in April, then this window will exclude those six time steps when calculating both the mean vertical wind speed and the mean horizontal wind speed. That may cause a small discrepancy in the April mean horizontal wind speed when compared to, say, the monthly statistics table, which would not exclude those six time steps.

Filter Settings

The Filter by section allows you to focus on any subset of your dataset. You can include or exclude data based on flag, date, or the value of any data column. For more information see the article on filtering data.
