Synthesize Wind Speed Data Tool |
This feature is coming soon to Windographer 5.
This tool window allows you to generate one year of synthetic wind speed data with the statistical properties you prescribe. To access this window, choose
from the menu:The Desired time step input lets you specify the length of the time step of the generated data.
Using the drop-down box at the top of the window you can choose between three levels of detail. If you choose Simple you will need to specify the mean wind speed for each month of the year, and the annual values of the following four parameters:
If you set the level of detail to Intermediate you must specify monthly values of both mean wind speed and each of the four parameters listed above.
If you set the level of detail to Advanced, then for each month you must specify the Weibull k, the autocorrelation coefficient, and the mean 24-hour wind speed profile. You can use Windographer to generate the data for this table from actual data. From the Tables tab, choose the 'Wind Speed Statistics for Synthesis' table, copy the values, and then open the Synthesize Wind Speed Data window and paste into the Advanced table.
Once you have chosen a level of detail and specified all the parameters, click Synthesize Data to create the dataset. The synthesized data will appear in the time series window. If you click synthesize data again, Windographer will generate a different set of data from the same statistics, using a different random number seed.
The exported file is a text file with two columns and 8,760 lines if you choose a 60-minute time step, more if you choose a shorter time step. The first line of data corresponds to the first time step of the year, 2001-01-01 00:00, meaning the one starting at midnight, January 1st. The year is arbitrarily set to 2001.
