Effective Measurement Height

The effective measurement height (or simply 'effective height') of a wind speed sensor is its nominal measurement height minus the displacement height. Windographer calculates the effective height of each wind speed sensor using the following equation:

where:

z is the effective height of the sensor [m]
zactual  is the nominal measurement height of the sensor [m]
D is the displacement height [m]

Windographer's speed shear calculations, such as those performed on the Wind Shear window and the Vertical Extrapolation window, use the effective height, rather than the nominal height, of each wind speed sensor.
