Importing From A Database

Windographer can read from and write to any database system that supports stored procedures.

Tip: Database integration is available only in the Enterprise edition of Windographer. Please visit www.windographer.com for information on the pricing and capability of each edition.

The database import and export processes encompasses not only numeric data, but also, optionally, flag data and document history data as well. As a result, one user can import a dataset from the database, flag some segments to indicate icing, tower shading, or anything else noteworthy, then write the dataset back to the database, and then any other user who imports the same dataset will see those flagged segments and the full list of modifications made to the dataset and who made them.

Because it communicates with the database via stored procedures, Windographer does not need to know anything about the structure of the database. It does not need to know table names, field names, or even the database platform. When Windographer calls a stored procedure to retrieve a certain type of data, that stored procedure queries the database as necessary and returns the data to Windographer in the format that Windographer requires. The burden of writing the stored procedures rests with the database administrator.
